Sand Pond is a popular spot for anglers and waterfowl alike. Rainbow trout are stocked in the spring and fall. Turtles can be seen basking on the logs in Sand Pond and Canada Geese and other waterfowl can be quite abundant and protective of their young - keep your distance. The trail that circles the pond takes you along cottonwoods, willow stands, and marshes. You might hear frogs calling from the wetlands off the trail, or see them hopping across the trail. Northern Leopard Frogs have a deep snore-like call, while Western Chorus Frogs sound like rubbing your finger along a plastic comb. Songbirds are common in the spring and dragonflies are common in the summer.
