My interests include:
1) management of exotic, invasive species (weeds and insects);
2) foraging strategies of parasitic Hymenoptera;
3) use of novel (non-coadapted) and ancestral (coadapted) host-parasite associations for biological control;
4) biological control of weeds, including purple loosestrife and garlic mustard;
5) impacts of transgenic technology on natural enemies.
Currently (and recently) I have projects that include assessing the habitat and host selection processes of several conspecific microgastrine braconid parasites of stemborers; understanding the physiological and immunological interactions between braconid endoparasites and their stemborer hosts; search for and importation of exotic parasites for use against alfalfa blotch leafminer in the Midwest; rearing and release of several biological control agents against the exotic wetland plant, purple loosestrife, in Illinois; studying the biology of garlic mustard, a forest-inhabiting weed; and searching for natural enemies to use against the exotic, invasive weed, teasel (Dipsacus sp.).
